Outdoor Activities

All students enjoy the outdoor playground areas.  M.C.M.S. offers separate play areas for pre-school, kindergarten, and elementary students.  Morning and afternoon playtimes are important parts of the younger students’ daily routine.

Sports classes are also provided twice weekly for all elementary students with specialized Sports teachers.  Team sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, kickball, softball, and badminton provide fun training for all students. All students receive daily opportunities for outside activities and organized group games.

Elementary students are offered the opportunity to participate in the President's Challenge.

The President's Fitness Challenge

In 1956 President Eisenhower identified the importance of physical activity for a person's health.  In 1966 President Johnson began the Presidential Fitness Program.  This program became the President's Challenge in 1986.  Since then American youth between the ages of 6 and 17 have been participating in an awards program that rewards all kids for being active, fit and healthy.

In August of 2005, MCMS decided to offer the President's Challenge Program for the first time.  As the program itself was about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, MCMS began year one.  By the end of the first year the program was a tremendous success in the upper grades.  With over 85% of the total enrollment involved, our students were reaching the goals of the program and MCMS became an Active Lifestyle Model School recognized by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

In 2006, MCMS opened the program to grades two through six with tremendous enthusiasm and success.  According to the objectives outlined in Healthy People 2010, and the new healthier US initiative outlined by President George W. Bush, MCMS once again received recognition as as an Active Lifestyle Model School.  In addition to this award our Fitness program has received  recognition from the President's Challenge in the form of an additional award.

In July of 2007, MCMS was recognized as a Demonstration Center by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.  The success of the Fitness program at MCMS has encouraged our students to pursue an active lifestyle while making healthy choices in all areas of life.
